The seminar will serve as a place for exchange of information on the welfare policies for unwed mothers in the US and Korea, as well as their respective situations. The seminar will be conducted in a total of two parts. Part one will begin with opening remarks from Dr. Richard Boas, Director of the Korea Unwed Mothers Support Network, followed by a presentation on "U.S. Social Welfare Policies for Unwed Mothers" by Cheryl Mitchell, a professor of Social Policy at Vermont University and former Deputy Secretary at the Agency of Human Services in the state of Vermont. A question and answer session will follow. In the second part will be a presentation on "Korean Social Welfare Policies for Unwed Mothers" by unwed mother themselves, followed by a discussion session. This month's seminar is especially meaningful in that unwed mothers themselves will participate in the discussion and exchange of information to promote their rights and to improve their quality of life.
