■ Excerpt (unofficial translation) Some time ago, driven by a need to understand how a "life, unlivable" is constructed and how those who live such lives sustain themselves, I reached out to the author of The Birth of Unwed Mothers on a whim. That meeting and exchange of stories now leads me to this point, where I find myself engaging with the author’s book and writing its review.
At the time, I was immersed in studying how single mothers navigate their roles as subjects under the Single-Parent Family Support Act, a focus that led me naturally to seek out stories of unwed mothers likely contained in the author’s doctoral dissertation. Discovering that this research had been published in book form was a true pleasure. I feel a deep sense of gratitude toward both "those who shared their lives" and to "the author who has faithfully conveyed these lives to us." |
